2009 Hawaii Wedding Highlight Slideshow

2009 was an amazing year for L’Amour Photography. We wanted to share a slideshow that we recently put together that highlights a few of the beautiful weddings L’Amour shot last year. This is a long slideshow, so the file may take a while to load (low-bandwidth beware) Enjoy!!

Hawaii Wedding Photographer - Lisa & David’s Halekulani Wedding

Weddings are a lot like snowflakes -they are beautiful and not a single wedding is exactly alike. The only part that is consistently the same is the moment just before knocking on the bridal suite door. It is always a great moment - you know you are about to open a door onto a room buzzing with excitement.

Lisa’s suite at the Halekulani Hotel in Waikiki was definitely a buzz when we arrived - Lisa was getting her hair and makeup done by Christine from Flaunt Make-Overs. Her bridesmaids were busy getting their finishing touches done, and her maid of honor was busy finishing up her speech on her laptop.

We have to give a special round of applause for Lisa’s Maid of honor - we have rarely seen a Maid of Honor so attentive to every possible need and want of a Bride.

Bridal Preparation at a Destination Wedding

We were very excited to see Keone & Kelii from Kai Media there and capturing every detail. Apparently Lisa had seen the amazing video that Kai Media had done for us and made the great decision to add Kai Media’s talent to the day.

One other thing that normally holds true on a wedding day is that the grooms suite is normally proportionally calm to the brides busy room. When we arrived at David’s room, all the gents were Suited up and ready to go.

David had given all his groomsmen flasks as a thank you present. To add a, well, brutal twist to a traditional present, David also gave each of his groomsmen a bottle of 190 proof Everclear. All I could say was, “Ouch.” I asked if they were going to have a shot before the wedding, they all looked at the flasks with a respectable fear and shook their heads in a resounding no - smart men.

Lisa & David decided to do a very sweet first meeting in a flower draped walkway at the Halekulani prior to the ceremony. They both looked so excited to see each other dressed for the big day.

After the first meeting, we shot some of the bridal party and a few portraits of Lisa and David.

The wedding ceremony took place on the Halekulani’s Hau Terrace. The floral boxes were a great addition to their wedding aisle.

We have to say that the Halekulani is not only a great wedding venue, but the staff working the reception were some of the most polite and professional staff we have ever seen. Incredibly kind and attentive, the catering manager himself made sure that our team of photographers all had drinks and were well taken care of. This may seem like a little thing, but, to people who have been running in the beautiful Hawaiian sun while wearing all black, a glass of water is worth more than its weight in gold.

One of the final things that is true of every wedding day is that they always fly by. An incredibly wise decision that Lisa & David made was to schedule a next day wedding portrait session. See more of Lisa & David’s beach wedding pictures here.

Lisa & David’s Hawaii wedding was a perfectly beautiful day. Congratulations on the start of your new lives together!!

Hawaii wedding photographer - Save the Date!

Save the date cards are a destination wedding essential! They provide valuable information to guests and ensure that your family and friends can share your big day. Don’t worry if you don’t have all your details nailed down; a save the date doesn’t require the name of your location or a specific time.

It can be simple or elaborate, funky or traditional, a full card, post card or even a refrigerator magnet. No matter the style, all save the dates should include these features:

  • Date. If you are planning a weekend full of festivities, let guests know so they can schedule accordingly.
  • Location. Let people know if they need to book a flight, pack the car for a road trip or secure a hotel room. This is the place to notify guests if you have block of rooms at a hotel. Include the information required for their planning.
  • A way to get more information. Provide your phone number, email address or the url to your wedding website. Spending time answering questions at the beginning will save you and your guests from last minute panics and ensure that your wedding day is not shrouded in confusion.
  • Elements of your wedding style. This is where you get to have fun. Save the dates can be far less formal than wedding invitations and more adaptable. Photographs are a great addition. One of my favorites was the UFC themed card above. It was fresh, reflected the fun attitude of the couple and was a cute addition to my bulletin board. The couple then tied the theme of the card to the reception by having a grand entrance complete with boxing gloves and the famous - ‘Lets get ready to rumble’ announcement. It just goes to show that the only confine to a great save the date is your imagination!

Hawaii Wedding Florists - Flower Farm

Flower Farm has been a long running tradition in Hawaii. Family owned and operated since 1965, Flower Farm has seen three generations of Johnson family members - heck, they have been around for so long, the street the company is located on is named “Johnson St” - coincidence, I think not.

We have been fortunate to work with Koa and Arna several time in the last month and every time, the floral arrangements have been fantastic.

Eco-friendly Wedding Tip - Organic Flowers

You’re sharing your love with your friends and family on your wedding day, and you can also share your passion for the environment. Now more than ever, weddings are going green. One way to make your wedding more eco-friendly is to use more environmentally safe or organic flowers. Most flowers sold are grown using pesticides, which harm the environment. Long-distance transportation costs are also wasteful. There are several alternatives that won’t require sacrificing style for the sake of the environment.

Choosing a florist who offers locally-grown, organic, in-season flowers or buying flowers from the local farmers market will be much better for the environment. If there are no such options, Organic Bouquet (http://www.organicbouquet) offers fair trade and certified organic flowers. There are also other organic flower websites to choose from, but pick one that is located closest to you to minimize shipping. Silk floral arrangements can be just as beautiful, and they last forever. They can double as a keepsake for your bridal party after the wedding. Whatever you decide, at the end of the night, announce to your guests that they are welcome to bring the ceremony flowers or centerpieces home as a token of your special day!

Wedding Tip: Practice Picture Perfect Posture

What is the one element that will effect every single photograph you take on your wedding day? Posture. Good posture makes you look thinner, taller and more graceful. It is especially key when you are utilizing photojournalist style photography that catches unguarded moments. Couples and members of the wedding party should practice good posture in preparation for taking gorgeous pictures at every click.

Posture isn’t about posing, but about strength. Posing looks stilted, unnatural and uncomfortable. So instead of going America’s Next Top Model on your wedding day, work to strengthen and stretch the muscles in your shoulders and back. Taking dancing lessons to prepare for your big day? Don’t just focus on footwork, but use the lessons to practice correct carriage. Enroll in a ballet class for even more training. Yoga and Pilates are other disciplines that build the lean upper body strength that you need to stand tall all day. Ask your partner, friend or co-worker to remind you to straighten-up. The more you practice, the more natural the habit will become. The result will be great looking pictures that capture the beauty of your special day.
